Legislative Update
With Labor Day right around the corner, it usually marks the end of summer for most people. I sure will miss the warm weather, but I always look forward to fall. Although the Legislature isn't scheduled to meet on the floor until late September, Madison has been keeping me busy.
I suspect committee hearings will start to ramp up in the next few weeks as our next floor period is quickly approaching. I look forward to hearing public input on the various bills in my committees that are waiting for a public hearing.
Bipartisan Conversations
Suicide Prevention
It was great to meet with Sen. Ballweg to further our discussion on suicide prevention bills. We discussed our goals moving forward and how we can ensure Wisconsinites have the resources they need during difficult times.
Coffee Chat
I was pleased to join the Wisconsin Credit Union League's Annual Convention to have a bipartisan conversation with Senator Kooyenga. It was a great discussion as we both share the common goal of working together to solve the issues Wisconsinites care about.
Community Police Training
This month I attended the Community Session on Fair & Impartial Policing. Representatives from several local police agencies were there to teach participants on the modern science of bias and implicit biases which have an impact on perceptions and behavior.
Thank you to all the police officers who attended and also to retired Madison Police Chief Noble Wray for being the facilitator of the training session.
Main Street Grants
This program recently announced by Governor Evers will provide $10,000 grants to businesses moving into vacant commercial spaces. For more information, please click here.
Gov. Evers at Peters Farm
Governor Evers stopped by Peters Farm in Coon Valley this month to announce additional direct payments to our farmers. These payments will ensure our agriculture industry remains strong.
Until next time,
Steve
