Happy Thanksgiving!

Around 55 million people will be traveling for the holiday this year; given the winter storm expected to hit Wisconsin and neighboring states, it could cause some headaches. Whether you're traveling or hosting, I hope you have a safe and enjoyable holiday.

Capitol Update

As the Republican-controlled legislature adjourned until mid-January, it's been pretty quiet in Madison. Working in a divided government is tough at times, but I am continuing to work across the aisle on bipartisan proposals.

Veterans Property Tax Credit Bill

I recently co-authored a Veteran Tax Credit bill with Senator Jennifer Shilling. LRB-3504 will make it easier for veterans and surviving spouses to receive the Veterans and Surviving Spouse Property Tax Credit.

Currently, in order for veterans who rent to receive the tax credit, there must be an explicit agreement between the landlord and tenant allowing the renter to pay property taxes directly to the municipality. If this agreement does not exist, veterans and surviving spouses who rent do not receive this tax credit. This bill would change the law to allow veteran renters to claim the tax credit directly without an agreement with landlords and property owners.

Preserving Wisconsin Farmland

As the number of farms in Wisconsin are decreasing, retaining and protecting our farmland is key. That's why I am a cosponsor of LRB-3633 & 4749. These bills increase farmland preservation tax credit amounts and expand access to the farmland preservation program. I believe these bills will increase participation in the program and preserve our farmland for future generations.

What Else is Happening?

Recent Listening Session

Thank you to all those who attended my recent listening session in West Salem. It was great to hear about the issues most important to our community. Access to affordable healthcare, a great education, and better roads are issues our community cares about.

School Group Visits

Irving Pertzsch Elementary and Eagle Bluff Elementary School toured their State Capitol. After students visit the Capitol, I always make an effort to visit their classrooms; I look forward to doing that soon!

An Unexpected Surprise

A piece of art created by a previous intern. I was not expecting such a nice gift. Thank you, Bekki, for your amazing picture and all your hard work as an intern.
