Wisconsin's Environment
Wisconsinites love the outdoors. From hunting and fishing to tourism and recreation, our environment, diverse wildlife and unique natural features are a major driving force behind the success of local communities and opportunities for Wisconsin families.
Currently, our clean water doesn't seem too clean and the air we breathe doesn't seem too fresh. That's a problem - not only for our generations to come, but for those Wisconsinites who cherish the outdoors. Clean water, land, and air are essential to our economy and way of life in Wisconsin.
For our children and grandchildren to enjoy the same opportunities we had, we need to safeguard access to clean water, land and air, and invest in environmental and natural resource conservation efforts.
Governor Evers' budget includes environmental and natural resource conservation efforts that help protect us:
Water Initiatives
- Creates the Bureau of Science to focus on water and source contamination, including polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFA's).
- $6.5 million for Targeted Runoff Management
- $4 million for storm water grant and municipal flood control programs
- $3 million to achieve Safe Drinking Water
- $10 million for Soil and Water Resource Management
Energy Initiatives
- Carbon Free by 2050
- Creates The Office of Sustainability and Clean Energy at DOA
- $4 million for renewable and clean energy research grant
Going Forward...
I will continue to send out 'Budget in Depth' newsletters that discuss specific areas of the budget - it's important my constituents know what's being proposed. I will also continue to send out budget e-updates as the budget moves its way through the legislature - agency briefings are next!
What's Happening in Madison?
- Earlier this week I had the opportunity to discuss healthcare issues with the Wisconsin Dental Association.
- My staff received a visit from the Survival Coalition. Ashley discussed the issues most important to her.
- The American Red Cross is sponsoring a blood drive this week. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.
Until next time,
Steve
