Rep. Emerson Statement on Atlanta Shooting

Eau Claire - Representative Jodi Emerson (D-Eau Claire) released the following statement in
response to this week’s mass shooting in Atlanta that claimed the lives of eight people:
“Incidents of harassment, discrimination, and violent attacks on Asian-Americans have increased
with alarming frequency in Wisconsin and around the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly 4,000 hate incidents have been reported since just last March. Violent attacks and hateful rhetoric towards the AAPI community are unacceptable and must be strongly condemned. During this national crisis, it is vital that we unite and support our neighbors. My thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims in this tragic mass shooting in Atlanta. Hate and bigotry have no place in our state and nation."

Earlier this week, Representative Francesca Hong (D-Madison) and Senator Melissa Agard (D-Madison) introduced Joint Resolution Condemning Anti – APIDA Violence, LRB-2576/1, LRB-2572/1: Relating to condemning violence against the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA)community. Representative Emerson has signed on as a co-sponsor.
