Thank you for taking a few minutes to read my e-update.  It is hard to believe that it is almost Thanksgiving.  As we reflect on what we are thankful for this time of year I would just like to say thank you to the people of the 87th District for allowing me to serve you as your voice in the Wisconsin State Assembly.

Growing the Workforce in Rural Wisconsin

Recently, some of my colleagues from the Rural Wisconsin Initiative (RWI) brought forward a package of bills that would promote and bolster the workforce in rural Wisconsin.  I am proud to be a co-sponsor of this package.

The package includes bills that would do the following:

  • Create rural opportunity zones, which incentivize young people from out-of-state to relocate to rural Wisconsin
  • Allow students to earn high school credit for attending an apprenticeship program
  • Enable school districts to exceed revenue caps to make investments in capital infrastructure used in technical education (such as welding machines)
  • Establish a tax deduction for apprenticeship tuition expenses

I support these proposals because they will help attract some great new talent to rural areas, while also helping the young people already there develop the skills they need to meet the workforce needs in rural Wisconsin.  The bills are currently circulating for additional co-sponsors and I hope to see them introduced soon.

For more information about the RWI, visit www.RuralWisconsinInitiative.com.

Under the Dome

Last week, my wife Marty joined me in Madison to celebrate the State Capitol 100th Anniversary at the Centennial Gala. It was a wonderful event and it was so great to see people from around the state there to share in the historic occasion.  The funds raised from the gala will go towards the Capitol Restoration Fund which helps maintain our Capitol for generations to come.

Honoring our Veterans

Last week, I was honored to participate in Veterans Day ceremonies in communities around Rusk County and honor the brave individuals who have fought to protect and defend our country and our freedoms.  To all who have served, thank you for your service.

4-H Awards Banquet

Last weekend, I had the honor to speak at the Taylor County 4-H Awards Banquet in Medford, where they recognized leaders, new members, and other award-winners. It was easy to see that being a part of the Taylor County 4-H has been a great experience for these young people, who are gaining valuable skills and real-world experience through this organization.

Good Luck Hunters!

Our state's 9-day gun deer hunting season kicks off this Saturday.  Deer hunting is truly a Wisconsin tradition.  Whether you are hunting for the first time, or have been hunting for years I wish you and your family a safe and successful hunt.  Also, feel free to visit the Department of Natural Resources' website for tips, regulations, permit information and more.
