Investment in Rural Broadband Passes Assembly

Earlier this week, the Assembly took another important step to improve broadband access in rural Wisconsin with the passage of Assembly Bill (AB) 123.  AB 123 provides $15.5 million for the state's broadband expansion grant program and sets guidelines for the program to ensure that funding is going to the areas with the highest need.  I am proud to co-sponsor this important legislation that was brought forward as a part of the Rural Wisconsin Initiative (RWI).

No matter where I go around the 87th Assembly District, I consistently hear about the need for improved high-speed internet access.  In today’s world, reliable high-speed internet access is a necessity for education, healthcare, and business. The lack of high-speed internet access in rural Wisconsin not only affects the people in those areas but the State of Wisconsin as a whole by limiting economic growth.

AB 123 now moves on to the State Senate for further consideration.  I hope to see this important legislation become law in the near future.

Rep. Edming Testifies in Support of Rural Wellness Bill

On Wednesday I had the opportunity to testify before the Assembly Committee on Rural Development and Mining in support of Assembly Bill (AB) 222, my bill to provide $500,000 in grants for the creation of rural wellness facilities and programs.

Access to healthcare is one of the most pressing needs in rural Wisconsin.  That is why I am proud to author this bill which helps improve access to wellness facilities and programs in rural areas.  By investing in wellness in rural Wisconsin we will be keeping our rural population healthier which will help reduce the costs of health care and create a more productive workforce.  AB 222 now awaits further action by the committee.

Congratulations to Deputy Wojcik!

Recently, I was honored to join Senator Jerry Petrowski in presenting Deputy Matthew Wojcik of the Rusk County Sheriff's Office with a citation from the legislature for his actions earlier this year which saved the life of a decorated Vietnam Veteran.  Congratulations to Deputy Wojcik for this well-deserved honor!

FAB Lab Grant Presentation

Last week, I was pleased to take part in a grant award ceremony at Ladysmith High School where the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation presented a $7,500 grant to upgrade the school's FAB Lab. Congratulations to the School District of Ladysmith!
