Thank you for taking a few minutes out of your day to read my latest update from the State Capitol. I hope you find it informative. This week I discuss one of the bills I authored becoming law as well as other updates from down in Madison. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any thoughts on issues before the legislature or if you need assistance with a state agency.

Tuition Reform for Relocated
Service Members Becomes Law
Those who serve in the military and their families make great sacrifices for our state and nation. One of the challenges faced by service members and their families is being required to relocate to a new post. Unfortunately, if the spouse or parent of a student at one of our state’s public technical colleges or universities is relocated outside of Wisconsin due to their military service, it may cause the student to lose their state residency status and force them to pay out-of-state tuition.

I am pleased to share that legislation that I authored with Senator Dale Kooyenga to address this issue, Senate Bill 605, was signed into law by Governor Evers earlier this week. It is good to see this great bipartisan bill now the law of the land.
Thank You Senator Petrowski!
As you may have heard, earlier this week our senator, Jerry Petrowski, announced that he will be retiring from the State Senate at the end of this term. Since he became our senator back in 2012, Jerry has been an outstanding advocate for the people of the 87th Assembly District and the entire 29th Senate District. During my time in the legislature, I’ve had the pleasure of working with him to advance the priorities of the people we both represent. I'm grateful for all we were able to accomplish together and I'm proud to call Jerry my friend. I wish him and his wife the very best wherever the road may lead them next.

Under the Dome
5R Bill Heads to the Governor
I am pleased to share that during their floor session on Tuesday, the Senate approved Assembly Bill (AB) 943 sending it to Governor Evers' desk. This bill provides up to $2.5 million in funding for the Department of Natural Resources to contract for the removal of the hazardous electronic waste left behind by the now-defunct company 5R Processors. This waste is currently contained in several locations in Rusk, Price, and Washington Counties. I am proud to author this bipartisan proposal with Senator Petrowski and I appreciate the unanimous support this bill received in both houses of the legislature. I hope to see it signed into law by Governor Evers soon.

Trails Caucus Meeting
On Wednesday, I spent part of my morning with some colleagues on both sides of the aisle for a meeting of the Legislative Trails Caucus. We heard from a number of stakeholders including the 87th District's own American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation, the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs, the Wisconsin ATV / UTV Association, and more. It was great to hear about how our state’s trails improve the lives of Wisconsinites.
Research in the Rotunda
Another part of my day in Madison on Wednesday was checking out the University of Wisconsin System's annual Research in the Rotunda event. It is always exciting to chat with some of our universities' outstanding undergraduate students and learn about their research projects. I even ran into my friend and UW System President, Governor Tommy Thompson.
Around the 87th
Getting out to the many awesome community events around the 87th District and meeting with constituents is one of the best parts of my job as your state representative. Check out some of the upcoming events around the district below. If you know of any other upcoming events, please contact my office and let me know, so I can include them in a future e-update and attend if I'm able.
Stay Up to Date
One of the best ways to stay up to date with what is going on in Madison is to sign up for the legislature's notification tracking service. This service allows you to follow legislative activity in Madison. Once you create a free account you can sign up to receive notifications about specific bills or committees as well as legislative activity pertaining to a subject area (i.e. agriculture, veterans). You can sign up for this service at notify.legis.wisconsin.gov.
