Assembly Chamber 2018-5.jpg

Welcome back to my e-updates. With Election Day now behind us, I can resume sending you periodic updates to keep you informed of my work as your state representative. Thank you for taking a few minutes from your busy schedule to read them. If you are a first-time reader, I hope you find them informative.

While the next legislative session does not begin until January, my staff and I are still available to assist you. Navigating the bureaucracy of state government can be frustrating, so if you believe that my office can be of help to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Honored to Continue Working for You

I would like to start out by saying thank you to the hardworking people of the 87th Assembly District for re-electing me to be your voice in the Wisconsin State Assembly for another two years. I am humbled by the faith placed in me by my fellow citizens and honored to continue working for you. As I often tell folks, being your state representative is the best job I have ever had.

Looking ahead, we are living in an incredibly challenging time and elected officials at all levels of government continue to be faced with events and decisions that we never imagined. The upcoming legislative session is going to pose unique challenges as we continue to work to respond to COVID-19, while also striving to address the other issues facing our state. As we transition into the new legislative session, my staff and I are already hard at work, so we can hit the ground running come January. In the weeks ahead, I look forward to hearing from the people of the 87th District about some of the things that you would like to see the legislature address in the upcoming session. One of the most important parts of my job as your state representative is advocating for the needs of the people I represent and I have found that some of the best ideas for legislation come from constituents just like you.

Concerns About the Election

With Election Day now behind us, I would like to start by thanking all of the hard-working local clerks and their staff, as well as the many poll workers around the 87th District who put in the time and effort to administer our election and make voting as safe and easy as possible. Running an election is a difficult undertaking under normal circumstances and has been made more difficult this year with COVID-19.

Since Election Day, I have heard from a number of constituents with concerns about potential voter fraud and the validity of the election results here in Wisconsin. With the incredibly close margin in the presidential race in our state, it is understandable that Wisconsinites want to have confidence that our results are accurate. As you may have heard, President Trump's campaign has announced they will request a recount in Wisconsin. A recount can be officially requested upon the completion of the canvass of the election by the counties. Counties have until November 17th to complete their canvass. Once the recount has been officially requested, I encourage residents of the 87th District to observe the recount in their communities. If this is something you are interested in, reach out to your local clerk for more information once the official request for a recount has been made.

In addition, as you may have also heard, Speaker Vos has directed the Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections to use its investigatory powers under the state statutes to immediately review how the election was administered in Wisconsin. If you have any specific allegations or evidence of fraud that you would like to share with the committee for review, I encourage you to share them with the Committee Chairman, Representative Ron Tusler at Rep.Tusler@legis.wisconsin.gov. I look forward to reviewing the results of the committee’s investigation.

Thank You to Our Veterans

I was honored to play the trumpet at Ladysmith's annual Veterans Day ceremony on Wednesday. Thank you to all the veterans in the 87th Assembly District and throughout the nation for your brave service to us and our families.

State Capitol Christmas Ornament

The 2020 Wisconsin State Capitol Commemorative Ornament sponsored by the Wisconsin Historical Foundation is now available. Each year, the ornament features a different aspect of our state or the State Capitol building. This year, it illustrates a replica of the beautiful skylight in the State Senate Chambers. Sometimes, these ornaments go fast, so if you want one, I would recommend ordering it soon. Click here to order your 2020 commemorative ornament. All proceeds benefit the State Capitol Restoration Fund.
