Thank you for taking a moment to read my e-update. I hope everyone had a great weekend. Last week was another busy week serving the people of the 87th Assembly District and I'm looking forward to sharing a bit of it with you. On top of heading down to Madison for a committee hearing, I also held another one of my Around the 87th District Days. You can read more about it below.

As always, if you would like to share your thoughts or concerns on any state issues, please do not hesitate to contact my office. I look forward to hearing from you.

My Day in Ladysmith

One of my favorite parts of my job as your state representative is getting out and about in the 87th Assembly District and meeting with some of the constituents I am honored to serve. I always enjoy hearing their thoughts and ideas on issues impacting our community and our state.  On Friday, I spent the day in Ladysmith for another Around the 87th District Day.

I started the day off by meeting with members of the community and some of Ladysmith's city officials, including Mayor Alan Christianson and members of the city council. We discussed some of the issues important to the city including levy limits and workforce housing, among others. During our meeting, I was honored to present a legislative citation to the Ladysmith Mayor's Youth Commission for all their hard work and to recognize them for raising $4,500 for youth programs in Ladysmith. The Commission was created about a year ago by Mayor Christianson and consists of 10 middle and high school students whose mission is to identify the issues affecting the youth of Ladysmith and to inspire youth to become lifelong leaders through dedicated involvement in their community.  Keep up the great work!

Afterwards, I drove over to the Heart of the North Brewing Co. to speak with Cliff and Tom Taylor, father and son owners, and learn more about their small business. The Taylors opened their brewery just last July and have been doing tremendously well. My staff and I were given a tour of the brewery and discussed some of the challenges they had faced in starting and operating their small business. It is great to see this new small business in our community.  Let me tell you, if you haven't tried Heart of the North Brewing Co. yet, put it on your list!

After a quick break for lunch, I met with Rusk County officials. I enjoyed our conversation, which included several issues the county is facing, transportation aid, and more.

To end the day, I finally got around to doing something I've been meaning to do for a while now:  a ride-along with law enforcement. Rusk County Deputy Tyler Branstad took me out for a ride around the county in his squad car. I really enjoyed learning everything about how these officers do their job and the technology they use on the job. Thank you to the people of the Rusk County Sheriff's Department for the important work you do for the people of Rusk County.

My staff and I enjoyed our district day in Ladysmith and are in the process of planning future days around the 87th District.  Do you have a suggestion of a place I should visit on a future district day?  If you do, please contact my office and share your suggestion.  It very well might be a stop on my next day Around the 87th.

Blue Books Are In

Taylor the Bear would like for you to know that Wisconsin Blue Books are in! Wisconsin Blue Books contain a wealth of information about our state. This ranges from our elected officials and gubernatorial board appointments to state symbols and statistical data about our state. First published in 1853 as a manual for state legislators, it is today a useful resource to have on hand for all the state's citizens.

If you would like a copy of the 2019-2021 Blue Book, let my office know soon. They'll go fast! In addition to that, we have a limited supply of last biennium's Blue Books, as well. So, if you are interested in receiving the current Blue Book and last session's Capitol Centennial Blue Book as a box set, we can make that happen. Click here to let me know if you would like a Blue Book, free of charge.

Health Committee Public Hearing

On Wednesday, I was in Madison for a Health Committee Public Hearing. We heard testimony from the public on several bills, including one which I am a co-author of, Assembly Bill (AB) 313. This bill will establish a tick-borne disease study committee, which would study the issues involving awareness, prevention, surveillance, diagnosis, reporting, and treatment of Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases. As residents of the Northwoods, you and I both know how important it is to protect ourselves from ticks. By forming a committee like this, we would be taking the first step in improving the ways we fight Lyme-disease and other diseases from ticks. I was glad to see this bill receive a public hearing this week, and I hope to see it continue to move forward soon.

Huey's Hideaway Children's Museum

On Friday, October 11th, I was happy to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new outdoor space at Huey's Hideaway Children's Museum in Medford. If you're looking for a fun place to spend some time with the kids or grandkids, be sure to check out this awesome attraction right in our back yard. I can't wait to see the outdoor space once it is completed.
