A Note from Rep. Edming

Recently, I sent a letter to Joint Finance Committee Co-Chair Rep. John Nygren (R-Marinette) urging the Committee to reconsider the proposed changes to SeniorCare, -- the state-run prescription drug program for seniors. I decided to write this letter after several constituents contacted me to share their concerns about these possible changes.

After receiving my letter, Rep. Nygren and members of the Joint Finance Committee announced their shared support for SeniorCare. Currently, more than 80,000 of Wisconsin's seniors are enrolled in SeniorCare, which allows them to purchase supplemental prescription coverage. The program ensures that prescription medications remain affordable for seniors. I'm pleased that this program will keep serving our seniors.

I also support Family Care, IRIS, and Aging and Disability Resource Centers and wish to have these programs maintained. I plan to contact the Joint Finance Committee and be an advocate for these programs, as they serve a wonderful purpose throughout our state.

This Week in Madison

The Joint Finance Committee will begin its executive sessions for the 2015-2017 state budget this Wednesday, April 15th at 10am. The agenda includes budget items relating to the offices of Secretary of State, State Treasurer, Supreme Court, Circuit Court, Court of Appeals, Judicial Council, Judicial Commission, Public Service Commission, Employment Relations Commission, the Department of Revenue-Lottery Administration, and the Department of Administration-Division of Gaming.

It is during these executive sessions that individual issues in the Governor's budget proposal are discussed and voted on by the Committee.
