A Note from Rep. Edming

Rep. John Nygren introduced four bills that continue his HOPE Agenda. These bills extend beyond heroin addiction and focus on the root of Wisconsin's epidemic: prescription drug abuse and addition. Many times, heroin addiction starts with an addiction to prescription medications. We need to do our best to fight against the illegal use of these dangerous substances. I signed on as a co-sponsor to all four HOPE Agenda bills and supported them during the committee process. I plan to continue to offer my support as they move through the legislative process.

Assembly Bill 364: Reporting, disclosure, and practitioner review requirements under the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program; providing an exemption from emergency rule procedures; and granting rule-making authority.

Assembly Bill 365: Duty of law enforcement officers to report to the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program controlled-substance violations, opioid-related drug overdoses or deaths, and reports of stole prescription drugs. 

Assembly Bill 366: Pain clinic certification and requirements, granting rule-making authority, and providing a penalty. 

Assembly Bill 367: Reporting treatment programs using methadone and requiring review of prescription drug monitoring database.

In the 87th District

Thure Osuldsen has been a resident of Wisconsin since 1930, when he emigrated from Finland with his mother and older sister. In 1941, his mother became a naturalized United States citizen and he was told that he was also a citizen, as he was under the age of 16.  In 1944, Thure enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served as a sharpshooter, sniper, and guard for President Franklin D. Roosevelt before being honorably discharged in 1946, having achieved the rank of corporal. He became a pillar in his community, having served as county board chairman. He was notified that he was not a United States citizen, after applying for a passport and being denied. His daughter, Sue Burmeister, diligently worked for 15 years to obtain citizenship for her father. He will officially become a United States citizen on Friday, October 30th.
