Improving the Unemployment Process

It is unfortunate that throughout the pandemic the administration and the Department of Workforce Development (DWD)  have failed to properly process unemployment claims and rather than accepting responsibility for their failures and have played a blame game rather than working to fix the process. This legislation (that is now law) requires that DWD finally drop the act and use existing funds to take steps to improve their internal processes and infrastructure for handling unemployment claims.

The legislation requires the DWD to begin improvements on their internal systems used to process unemployment claims. No new funds are appropriated as the Department already has the ability and funds available to begin this process. Additionally, the legislation includes provisions that extends the waiver of the unemployment insurance waiting period, relief for businesses from unemployment benefit charges during the pandemic, and provides liability protections for small businesses from COVID-19 related claims.

Marathon County Selected for Vaccination Clinic

Marathon County has been chosen as one of the four sites chosen for a new community-based vaccination clinic to expedite vaccine distribution statewide.

This collaboration with AMI Expeditionary Healthcare, the University of Wisconsin system and local health departments will help rectify vaccination gaps in our state. All individuals currently eligible for the vaccine, regardless of where they live, will be able to schedule an appointment.

COVID Vaccine Information for Farmers

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has issued vaccination guidance for farm owners and workers allowing them to apply for vaccination.

Local health care providers have committed to prioritizing those aged 65 and over to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

In our local area, health care providers continue to have waiting lists full with current eligible populations.

You can register for a vaccine through your local health care provider by going to their website and completing their registration or by calling them directly.

I have included some helpful links for you.

Information on where to find vaccines in our county can be found on the Marathon County Health Department’s website.

Additional information on currently eligible groups can be found on the Department of Health Services website.
