Summer Sales Tax Holiday Proposal Advances

This week, the Assembly Committee on Jobs and the Economy held a public hearing and an executive session on my proposal to create a Summer Sales Tax Holiday.

The Summer Sales Tax Holiday would create a create a one-time sales tax holiday from June 1st – August 31st 2021. The holiday would apply to an estimated 11,000 business that were among some of the industries most devastated by COVID-19 including taverns, restaurants, movie theaters, arcades, and amusement parks. As more Wisconsinites get vaccinated this legislation will spur additional business to these important industries during the important summer months that could make or break many of the businesses that make Wisconsin such a great place to live.

Additionally, the Assembly Committee on Jobs and the Economy advanced proposals that would provide $200 million in grants to small businesses and another bill which would provide $75 million in grants to tourism and amusement industries. I am happy to support these measures that would use the new federal funds to help businesses across Wisconsin recover.

COVID-19 Vaccine Update

All Wisconsinites age 16 and over are now eligible for COVID-19 vaccines. However be aware that, some areas of the state may have a higher demand for vaccinations and may have waitlists. Vaccine providers will prioritize anyone previously eligible such as public-facing essential workers and people with medical conditions.

The Marathon County Community Vaccine Clinic at Northcentral Technical College's Center for Business and Industry is still operating from 11 am to 7 pm, Monday through Saturday. To make an appointment, please use the WI COVID-19 registry.
