Dear friend,
As you likely know, the Legislature is currently in the midst of debate
on Senate Bill 44 (SB 44), the Right to Work bill. We need your
help! Here is what you should know:
-
While its name may sound positive,
studies have shown that states with Right to Work laws have lower
wages and higher workplace fatality rates than in non-Right to
Work states.
-
Union participation is already
optional for Wisconsin workers – rather than introducing a new
freedom of choice, this bill would only impose government on private
businesses.
-
SB 44 is opposed by business leaders,
community members, and legislators on both sides of the aisle.
-
Right to Work will only distract us
from our real problems: a severe budget deficit; and a host of
departments, positions, and funds that must be restored in the
Governor’s budget.
I do not support this bill
or its Assembly counterpart (AB 61), and I assure you that I will do
whatever I can to protect Wisconsin workers. But I do support your
right to make your voice heard, and Republican leadership has
made it clear that they intend to pass this legislation as quickly as
possible. This is why we need you. I have heard an overwhelming amount
of opposition to this bill from many of you already, and I truly
appreciate your thoughtful, heartfelt input. As this bill moves through
the Senate and on to the Assembly next week, I also strongly urge you to
contact legislators in our surrounding area to share your thoughts on
