Sondy was first elected to the State Assembly in 2002 to represent the 79th district. In 2012, after the redistricting process, Sondy won re-election as the representative for the 80th Assembly District, which now covers Belleville, Mount Horeb, New Glarus, Oregon, Verona and the many rural villages and townships that surround those communities.
Born in Madison, she graduated from River Valley High School and attended Madison Area Technical College and Edgewood College.
Sondy was attracted to the legislature due to educational issues and was recruited by fellow Democrats. She served her school district as an education advocate and member of the school board legislative committee. She believes that it is vital that Wisconsin supports an educational system which will produce productive, responsible citizens.
Current Ranking Member Chair of the Assembly Committee on Education and Committee on Consumer Protections. Sondy is also a sitting member on the Assembly Committee on State Affairs and the Committee on Rules. She continues to support policies that create strong public schools, ensure quality health care for Wisconsinites, create family-supporting jobs, improve Wisconsin's water quality, protect the right to vote, and encourage economic recovery from the global COVID pandemic.
Sondy enjoys collecting antiques, bird-watching, kayaking, biking, and spending time with her family.
