Meet Alex

Alex has lived in the Middleton area most of his life, graduating from Middleton High School and starting his family in Western Dane County.

The Joers family opened a small business for children’s recreation and fitness in 2004. Being part of a family-owned business taught Alex the value of hard work and resilience. Working in this setting gave Alex a unique perspective to be able to see the challenges workers face on a daily basis.

Alex went to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and graduated in 2015 with a dual degree in Political Science and Public Administration. Alex met the love of his life, Katie, at UW-L and they were married in 2018. Alex and Katie have two kids: Blake, born in 2020, and Emerson, born in 2024.

Alex was elected to the Dane County Board in 2020 and re-elected in 2022. During his time on the Board, he served on several committees, including Public Protection & Judiciary, Personnel & Finance, UW Extension, Youth Commission, Public Works & Transportation, and the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center Board of Directors. He advocated for issues of land conservation, flood mitigation, small business recovery, public health, and affordable housing.

Alex was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in November of 2022. He serves on the committees on Colleges and Universities, Forestry, Parks and Outdoor Recreation, Tourism, and Rules. Alex has developed legislation related to gun safety solutions, student debt relief, environmental protection, food equity, and increasing the accessibility of child care. These efforts are critical to moving our state forward in the future.

Alex also currently serves on the Middleton Cross Plains Area School District Education Foundation Board of Directors. He is a member of the UWL Alumni Association, Young Elected Officials Network, Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy, and Friends of Pope Farm Conservancy.
