Eligible Providers to receive CARES Act funding

Beginning today, June 5, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) will begin accepting applications from specific types of health care service providers for funding from $110 million allotted to the state under the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The funds will be used to make payments to offset the losses and expenditures these providers have experienced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

$100 million will be distributed among the following groups of eligible providers:

  • Home and community-based service providers, including providers for 1-2 bed adult family homes, day services, home health, personal care, pre-vocational and supported employment, respite care, supportive home care, and daily living skills training for children
  • Assisted living facilities, including community-based residential facilities, 3-4 bed adult family homes, and resident care apartment complexes
  • Nursing homes, including skilled nursing facilities and intermediate care facilities
  • Emergency medical services providers

The remaining $10 million will be directed toward rural health clinics, Federally Qualified Health Centers, Tribal Health Clinics, and free and low cost clinics.

Interested providers can find more information and to link to the application on our CARES Act Provider Payments page. The application period will run from June 5 until June 30, with initial checks mailed to successful applicants. Once the initial payments have been sent out, a second round of payments will be determined so that providers with greater needs may receive additional support from remaining funds.

WEDC to Provide $2500 Grant to 30,000 Businesses Statewide

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) will begin accepting applications online for the $75 million We’re All In Small Business Grant (WSBG) program beginning at 8 a.m. on June 15, 2020.

The program, which will provide $2,500 grants to 30,000 small businesses, is designed to help small businesses get back on their feet amid the COVID-19 pandemic while also encouraging them to adopt best practices to keep employees, customers and communities safe.

Funded primarily by the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the grants will help small businesses with the costs of business interruption or health and safety improvements, wages and salaries, rent, mortgages and inventory.

A business may apply for the We’re All In Small Business Grant if it:

  • Was in business in February 2020. Businesses that started in 2020 are not eligible;
  • Is Wisconsin-based and for-profit;
  • Employs 20 or fewer full-time equivalent (FTE) employees, including the owner; and
  • Has more than $0 but less than $1 million in annual revenues.

FAQs about the grant and the materials businesses will need to apply can be found at wedc.org/WAI-Small-Business-Grant. The online grant application will be accessible thru 11:59 p.m. Sunday, June 21.

Wisconsin Farm Support Program

Following extensive discussions with agricultural stakeholders, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is announcing the timeline and eligibility requirements of the Wisconsin Farm Support Program, which will provide $50 million in direct aid payments to Wisconsin farmers who have experienced losses due to COVID-19.

Applications for this funding, administered by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, will be accepted starting June 15. Individual payments will range from $1,000-$3,500 and will be issued after the application period closes on June 29. Wisconsin farmers with gross income between $35,000 and $5,000,000 in 2019 may be eligible to receive a payment. Farmers are encouraged to apply as soon as possible on or after June 15 to leave time for resolving any potential issues in their application.

Eligible farmers should apply online through the Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR): https://revenue.wi.gov. The application link will be live on June 15. Farmers who cannot apply online may request assistance by calling 608-266-2772. Spanish- and Hmong-speaking farmers should call DOR at 608-266-2772 for assistance.

COVID-19 has presented a wide variety of new challenges to the agriculture industry. Since the initial onset of the pandemic, Governor Tony Evers has repeatedly committed to using funding from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act for direct payments to agricultural producers. In late May, the Governor announced plans to provide $50 million in direct aid as requested by Wisconsin agricultural groups, as well as $15 million in support for food banks, pantries, and other food businesses that have faced hurdles in adjusting to the pandemic.
