Rep. Lisa Subeck Participates in White House Convening on Child Care

MADISON – This week, Representative Lisa Subeck joined senior Administration officials, child care advocates, and other state legislative leaders in Washington, DC, for the White House State Convening on Child Care. Rep. Subeck, a former early childhood educator and long-time advocate for working families, discussed strategies and successes in improving access to quality child care in other states.

“Thank you to President Biden and Vice-President Harris for their leadership in ensuring every American has access to affordable, high quality childcare,” said Rep. Subeck. “Working families across the country are being forced to choose between keeping their jobs and taking care of their children.”

In Wisconsin, the average cost of infant care has risen to over $11,000 annually and 54% of Wisconsinites live in a childcare desert with few to no quality childcare options. During the pandemic, Governor Tony Evers used federal funds to create the Child Care Counts program in order to ensure providers could keep their doors open and parents could get back to work. With this funding nearing its end, there is a need for legislative action to stabilize and expand access to quality care.

“Today, at the White House, I had the opportunity to share ideas and learn from the successes of other states facing similar child care challenges,” said Rep. Subeck. “I look forward to turning these ideas into action during the upcoming legislative session.”

Rep. Subeck has represented the 78th Assembly District since 2015 and serves as Chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus.
