Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This week in the Capitol is a busy one, as we continue our work to fight back against the Governor’s massive proposed cuts to the University of Wisconsin and public education, extend our petition drive to save SeniorCare, focus on the damage the governor’s proposed budget would do to our natural environment, and so much more. Couple that with Republican attempts to draw attention away from the budget via a so-called “Right to Work” bill that is anything but what it claims to be, and we have got our work cut out for us.
This week’s newsletter highlights more on the state budget and Republican attempts to distract from the damage the governor’s proposal would do to what we value most, our continued work to save SeniorCare, and a reminder about a budget listening session that Senator Fred Risser and I are holding on Thursday. I hope you find this information useful. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact my office.
Sincerely,
Lisa Subeck State Representative 78th Assembly District
Republican Budget Strategy: Distract on the Fast-Track Last Friday, in the face of much attention to the draconian budget proposed by Governor Walker, Republican leadership in the legislature announced plans to fast-track their so-called “Right to Work” bill that is nothing more than an another attack on the rights of working Wisconsinites. With Wisconsin already lagging the nation in job creation and wage growth, we should be focusing on creating economic opportunities, not passing a law that would lower wages and stifling the voices of working people.
The Governor and Republican lawmakers have proven they will do anything they can to distract from their mismanagement of Wisconsin’s economy and their disaster of a budget. Governor Walker previously referred to this bill as a “distraction,” and now he is using the “distraction” to his advantage. As we work to defeat RTW, we continue working to keep the focus where it belongs – on the damaging impact of the governor’s proposed budget.
Action Alert Republican leaders are working to fast-track SB 44 in an attempt to avoid public debate. Governor Walker has confirmed that he will sign the bill into law if it reaches his desk. Today and tomorrow the Senate will hear the bill, and next week, it will be heard in the Assembly.
I encourage you to contact Governor Scott Walker, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, urging them to put the brakes on SB 44:
Governor Walker - (608) 266-1212 or govgeneral@wisconsin.gov Majority Leader Fitzgerald - (608) 266-5660 or Sen.Fitzgerald@legis.wi.gov Speaker Vos - (608) 266-9171 or Rep.Vos@legis.wi.gov
Budget Listening Session This Thursday, Senator Fred Risser and I will host a budget listening session in the 78th Assembly district to hear from you. Please stop by and let your voice be heard.
Thursday, February 26 5:00 to 7:00pm Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and School, Community Room 1701 McKenna Blvd, Madison

Please return the signed petitions to my office in the Capitol by March 15th. Petitions may be dropped off or mailed. If you have any questions, please contact my office.
Visit from Crestwood Elementary School On Friday, third graders from Crestwood Elementary came to visit the Capitol and learn more about state government. Students were able to have a seat in the Assembly chambers, and we even had a mock vote on a bill. I enjoyed having the opportunity to meet with this eager group of young citizens.
