Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Today is Election Day, and I just returned to the Capitol after casting my votes in the primary elections for Mayor of Madison and District 1 Alderperson. Throughout the 78th Assembly District, voters will find the mayoral primary on your ballots. Depending on where in the district you live, you may also find a City Council primary.

In addition to a reminder to vote today and information about where to vote, this week’s newsletter highlights our work to save SeniorCare, invites you to attend my first listening session about the state budget, and provides a first look at the Assembly Democrats’ Economic Opportunity Agenda: 15 Bills for 2015.

I hope you find this information useful. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact my office.

Sincerely,

Lisa Subeck

State Representative

78th Assembly District

Save SeniorCare

Last week, I visited senior housing complexes throughout the district to collect petition signatures to save SeniorCare. I left petitions behind at the Westside Senior Center and at many senior housing complexes, so please be sure to sign. I’ll be back to pick up the petitions next week.

Thank you to those who have signed or collected signatures and sent back your signed petitions.

Click here to access a printable petition to join me in the fight to save SeniorCare. I invite you to print it, sign it, help collect some signatures, and send it back to my office. All the instructions are on the petition. Please return the signed petitions to my office in the Capitol by March 1st. Petitions may be dropped off or mailed. If you have any questions, please contact my office.

Economic Opportunity Agenda: 15 Bills for 2015

Last week my democratic colleagues and I announced our Economic Opportunity Agenda: 15 Bills for 2015, a package of legislation that will help restore economic opportunities for all of Wisconsin’s workers, students, and families. Our proposals would raise wages, create family supporting jobs, and grow Wisconsin’s middle class. I look forward to working to advance these proposals and helping to ensure they receive the strong bipartisan support they deserve.

Together with Representative Eric Genrich from Green Bay, I am leading efforts to pass a “Buy Wisconsin” bill, as part of the “15 Bills for 2015” package. The Buy Wisconsin bill encourages state and local governments to buy materials and services from Wisconsin-based businesses by setting minimum contracting goals directing that not less than 20% of a fiscal year’s purchases be procured from Wisconsin-based businesses.  This is a bold, yet achievable, target that will have a dramatic impact on Wisconsin’s economy.

The 15 bills included in the Economic Opportunity Agenda:15 Bills for 2015 are:

  • Raising the minimum wage

  • Entrepreneurial Assistance Grant Program

  • Creating a Nanotechnology Hub

  • Rural Broadband Expansion

  • Refundable Angel and Early Stage Seed Investment Credits

  • Index the Homestead Tax Credit

  • Made in America

  • Fund Farm-to-School Grants

  • Restore the Earned Income Tax Credit

  • Create a Clean Energy Jobs Task Force

  • Workforce Growth 2.0

  • Small Business Innovation Research and Technology Transfer Matching Grants Program

  • Buy Wisconsin

  • Small Business Tax Credit Now

  • Wisconsin Food First Bill
