Rep. Meyers’ Response to State Budget Address
State Representative Beth Meyers issued the following statement in response to Governor Tony Evers’ budget address, which took place virtually Tuesday evening.
“Governor Evers addressed the challenges our state faces, speaking directly to the people of Wisconsin and introducing a budget that supports everyone from children, to small businesses, to seniors. The past eleven months have challenged everyone, but Gov. Evers’ budget proposal will set the stage for a true Badger Bounceback.”
Highlights of Governor Evers’ budget include historic investments in rural broadband, K-12 education, climate research, and Medicaid expansion. The budget proposes $200 million to expand broadband access in Wisconsin, a $612.8 million general aid increase in public schools, establishing a partnership program among UW-Superior’s Lake Superior Research Institute and surrounding Northern Wisconsin communities to address environmental health issues, as well as many other items to address the needs of Northern Wisconsin.
“I applaud Gov. Evers for proposing a budget that will invest in public education in Wisconsin, ensure Wisconsinites have access to affordable health care, expand high-speed internet access, support increased economic development, and fund new energy innovations as our state continues to recover from COVID-19. Investments like these will be absolutely critical for Wisconsin’s growth as we move into a new decade.”
The proposed budget now goes to the Joint Finance Committee to be deliberated.
