Rep. Meyers’ Statement Election Safety and Access

MADISON – Rep. Beth Meyers (D-Bayfield) released the following statement in support of Governor Evers’ call to increase election access and safety by sending every registered voter in Wisconsin an absentee ballot:

“I’ve been contacted daily by clerks and voters in Northern Wisconsin who are worried about the upcoming election. Everyone wants to do their part as a citizen by participating in their democracy, but they also want to protect their communities and uphold the safety measures put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“In this trying time, I want to thank Governor Evers for his leadership through this crisis. I support his proposal to mail ballots to all voters, allow ballots to be sent in as late as Election Day, and to give clerks extra time to count ballots.

“I know this is not a perfect solution, and it won’t be easy for the already overworked clerks and poll workers of Wisconsin. We will need to figure out how to get the appropriate resources to every municipality quickly, and we will need to be resourceful. Voting is a fundamental right in our democracy, and I believe we can find a way for everyone to exercise that right while prioritizing public health.”
