Rep. Meyers’ Response to State of the State Address

State Representative Beth Meyers issued the following statement in response to Governor Tony Evers’ State of the State address, which took place virtually Tuesday evening.

“Governor Ever’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been effective, smart, and informed by public health experts. Despite this challenging and divisive year, we have found ways to come together and address the issues facing Wisconsinites.”

“The current distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine is promising as we begin to see a light at the end of the tunnel. However, the economic fallout wrought by this pandemic is reverberating throughout our state. We need to respond quickly and effectively if we are to mitigate the damage done to our economy. The pandemic exposed the rampant inequalities of internet access across our state. This issue was on full display in Northern Wisconsin as educators and students struggled to make the switch to virtual learning while patient’s trying to access telemedicine were bogged down by unstable connections. That is why I am thrilled by the Governors commitment to invest in rural broadband access. Along with broadband, there are several issues that we must address to help my constituents and people across Wisconsin—fixing our unemployment, securing the future of seniors, providing aid to small businesses, and giving local governments the resources they need to respond to this virus. We must also ensure we protect our first responders and frontline workers who have sacrificed so much.”

“I have faith that Governor Evers will continue to follow through on his promise to work across the aisle to find real solutions for the people of Wisconsin. We need cooperation in our government, now more than ever.”
