Good to Know Info

Daylight Savings Time Ends

Don't forget to set your clocks an hour back this Sunday, November 5, 2017. Fall back!

Remember this is a great time to change batteries and test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they work properly.

 Cyber Safety

Cyber security awareness month has ended, but there is one final tip sheet for week 5. Please put all of these safety tips into daily practice to keep you, your family and your personal information protected from criminals.

Check out Google's website for kids to be internet awesome!

Wisconsin Drug Take Back

Thank you to all who participated in last week's Drug Take Back program. It was a huge success with 60,257 pounds of unused prescription medications collected. Read and see the results!

 In Progress Legislation

On Wednesday morning the Committee on Ways and Means unanimously voted in favor of my Fire Fighter Memorial bill (AB 343) that creates an individual income tax checkoff for donations to the Fire Fighters Memorial Association. The proceeds support the construction, improvement, and maintenance of the Fire Fighters Memorial that we have in Wisconsin Rapids. Here is a video regarding this piece of legislation.

I am also very pleased that the financial literacy bill (AB 280 / SB 212) that I authored with Senator Chris Kapenga (R-Delafield), District 33, has passed in the Senate! Thank you to Representative Jason Fields (D-Glendale), District 11, and Senator Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee), District 4, for their ongoing support of this bill. Now off to the Governor's desk it goes!

What's New

This week I participated in Attorney General Brad Schimel's law enforcement roundtable in both Adam and Wood Counties along with Senator Pat Testin (R-Stevens Point), District 24, Representative Joan Ballweg (R-Markesan), District 41,  Representative Nancy Vander Meer (R-Tomah), District 70, and local law enforcement and community officials. It was a great opportunity to discuss issues such as drugs and public safety face-to-face so we can address needs and resources for the judicial system and health and human services.

Read the Department of Justice (DOJ) news release.

Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Crime Victim Services (OCVS) is providing $27.4 million to crime victim services in all 72 counties in Wisconsin through September 2018. Grant funding will be available to private and public agencies to provide necessary and helpful community service referrals, counseling, crisis intervention and legal advocacy to victims of crime.
