Good to Know Info
As we wrap up holiday shopping be vigilant of Christmas Crooks!
Remember to purchase online only if the website is secure (https).
Don't fall victim to the social media gift exchange in which promised gifts never arrive.
Seniors, don't send money to your "grandchild" who is having hard times, hospitalized, or jailed! Verify with a family member.
Winning free gift cards online? I think not! Don't click on the link or share personal information. Prevent identity theft.
Don't open fake shipping notifications online. Delete the email! Payment for shipping is not required except at the time of purchase. Scammers may access personal data and passwords.
Don't give monetary donations to phony charities with sound-alike names. Verify the charity.
Don't pay for purchases with pre-paid debit cards, gift cards, wire transfers or third parties.
Don't give out personal information for e-cards or santa letters. Verify the website for santa letters at www.bbb.org.
Beware of bargain travel scams and cute puppies for sale. Do an image search of the pup. He may be on multiple websites.
Most important!! Help protect yourself and others. Watch your financial statements for unrecognized charges. Dispute the charges and report the incident to BBB Scam Tracker and the FBI internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
In Progress Legislation
Good news! Our Harvest for Hope bill, AB 577, is scheduled for a public hearing next week, Tuesday, December 19, 2017, in the Committee on Consumer Protection.
What's New
As you know, our 2017-19 state budget provides historical levels of K-12 educational funding which includes Technology for Educational Achievement (TEACH) grant monies. On Tuesday, December 12, Governor Scott Walker made $15 million available for eligible, rural school districts to update their information technology (IT) capabilites and infrastructure. School districts such as Adams-Friendship, Almond-Bancroft, Marion, Port Edwards, Tri-County Area, Wautoma and Wild Rose qualify for grants between $30,000 and $60,000. These additional resources can be used to expand and upgrade IT infrastructure equipment and services. Grant applications need to be submitted to The Department of Administration (DOA) by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2018. See the list of eligible school districts at the TEACH website. What a great educational investment in our rural school districts!
