A bill requiring the state Department of Transportation to place Iola Car Show signs at several intersections in Waupaca, Portage, and Marathon counties was recently signed by Gov. Scott Walker.

 

Larry Fechter, managing director for the show, spearheaded the effort after finding a bill would be required due to existing legislation that barred this sort of signage because Iola is located more than five miles from major state highways. The legislation was co-authored by state representatives Kevin Petersen, R-Waupaca,  Katrina Shankland, D-Stevens Point, and Dave Heaton, R-Wausau, along with state senators Julie Lassa, D-Stevens Point, Luther Olson, R-Ripon, and Jerry Petrowski, R-Marathon. The bill was signed into law by Gov. Walker on March 1 in Madison.

 

The signs will be posted at the intersections of highways 10 and 49 in Waupaca, 29 and 49 in Marathon County, and 49 and 66 in Portage County. The signs will be maintained by the DOT.
