Bill would allow women to fill 12 months' worth of birth control at once

MADISON, Wis. - A bill will be introduced Wednesday that would allow women to fill their birth control prescriptions for 12 months at a time instead of the current three months, according to a release.

Rep. Katrina Shankland, D-Stevens Point, will be introducing the legislation Wednesday saying it will improve women’s health care access.

Wisconsin health insurance plans currently cover prescriptions of birth control for 30 or 90 days, which requires women to go back to the pharmacy every few months.

Shankland said that is an unnecessary limitation that is a barrier to contraceptive access for many women, especially those who work multiple jobs or have limited transportation options.
