Important Voting Update for April 7 Election

I’m thinking of our community members constantly in this time of uncertainty and hope this message finds you and yours well. I'm writing today with some important news regarding the upcoming April 7 election.

Yesterday, U.S. District Judge Conley issued a ruling to:

  • Extend the deadline to request an absentee ballot to TODAY, Friday, April 3 at 5 p.m.
  • Extend the deadline for voters to get their absentee ballots to their local clerk, with a new deadline of 4 p.m. on Monday, April 13
  • Lift the witness requirement for absentee ballot applications, as long as voters provide a written affirmation that they could not safely get a witness signature due to coronavirus fears.

You can read more about these changes HERE.

If you have not yet requested an absentee ballot, I encourage you to do so as soon as possible. You can request an absentee ballot for the rest of the year by going to this link. Please note you will need to include a copy of your photo ID if you haven't done this before.

If you want to request an absentee ballot for just the April 7 election, please fill out this absentee ballot request form and send it along with a copy of your photo ID to your local clerk.

You must request your absentee ballot by today, Friday, April 3, at 5 p.m.

You can find out who your municipal clerk is by going HERE

When you receive your ballot, fill it out and get it back to your local clerk by April 13 by 4 p.m. If you cannot find a witness signature to sign your absentee ballot's envelope due to coronavirus concerns, you may write that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you were unable to safely obtain a witness certification despite reasonable efforts to do so.

You can find information about polling location changes in Portage County and additional voting information HERE.
