Friends and Neighbors,

I hope you are enjoying your summer. Madison tends to slow down after the budget debates; however, I have been keeping busy with meetings regarding legislation and attending events in Kenosha.

This week the Republicans called the Assembly in for an extraordinary session in attempt to veto override Governor Evers. At the same time, the Governor called a special session to invest $550 million in public education. To no surprise, Republicans immediately gaveled in and out of the special session and proceeded with the veto override votes. Republicans attempt to override the Governor failed and I was proud to uphold the Governors’ veto.

I have heard from many educators and school districts in Kenosha and from around the state who are asking for increased education funding. It is disappointing Republicans ignored Governor Evers’ call for a special session and disregarded the plea for more funding. This is a failure for our state as we had the opportunity to support our school districts, but instead had to witness another Republican political stunt. We can and should be doing better.

I always welcome your feedback and opinions, so please feel free to contact me. Also, if you would like something to be included in future e-newsletters, just let me know at (608) 266-0455 or Rep.Ohnstad@legis.wi.gov.

Sincerely,

Uptown Neighborhood

I was pleased to have a productive tour and discussion about how we can work together to revitalize Uptown. I was joined by the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority, Sec. Peter Barca, Rep. McGuire, Sen. Wirch, Alder Shayna Griffin, and Mayor Antaramian.

While wait times and payment processing have significantly improved, I’m aware there are still many issues. It is important Wisconsinites are able to use this critical program when they need it most.
