14th Annual Wounded Warrior Car Show

military vehicles, face painting, raffle items, music, dunk tank.
You may have
seen in the Kenosha News earlier this
month that a bid was submitted to the City of Kenosha to fix the
flooring at the Kenosha Dream Playground. Well, on Monday, the Kenosha
Parks Commission
voted unanimously to approve the bid,
which comes from Bluemel's Inc. of Greenfield. The next step in the
process is for the Kenosha City Council to vote on the bid.
This is exciting news, as it means the repair process can continue to
move forward. Kenosha's Dream Playground is such an asset for children
and families of all ages and abilities throughout our community. The
sooner the repairs get made, the sooner people can begin using and
enjoying the Dream Playground again.

With the end of July upon us, this summer seems to be flying by. It has been great to see so many of you out and about throughout Kenosha. Summer is one of my favorite seasons to connect with friends and enjoy the wonderful community we live in. I've felt particularly fortunate to do so during a month when so many recent events have left folks feeling more divided than united.
As the summer continues, I hope you'll continue reaching out to me with your thoughts on the important issues facing our community. And I hope you'll send me a note, whether through my legislative website, email, Facebook, or of course via phone, to let me know about the events and conversations happening in your neighborhoods. Voter ID 'Safety Net' to be Implemented
For November 8th General Election
On July 19th, U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman of the Eastern District of Wisconsin ruled Wisconsin must allow voters without a photo ID to sign an affidavit swearing they are who they say they are. Wrote Judge Adelmanin his 44-page ruling, "[a]lthough most voters in Wisconsin either possess qualifying ID or can easily obtain one, a safety net is needed for those voters who cannot obtain qualifying ID with reasonable effort."
According to Judge Adelman's decision, the affidavit safety net will be in place for the November 8th general election, but not Wisconsin's August 9th primary election.
Rep. Ohnstad Receives 100% Rating
from Sierra Club for 2015-16 Session
Earlier today, I was honored to learn I received a 100% rating from the John Muir Chapter of the Sierra Club for my votes taken during the 2015-16 legislative session. According to the Sierra Club, this rating reflects how I voted on their priority issues of reducing climate change and protecting land and water resources in Wisconsin. I hear often from constituents on bills relating to Wisconsin's land, water, and air. I will continue to listen to my constituents, who have asked me time and time again to prioritize the environmental health of our state as I consider legislative proposals.

Rep. Ohnstad Good Samaritan Law Getting Attention As Temperatures Rise
Last year, I was thrilled to get a bill signed into law which would provide protection to Good Samaritans who break into a parked car to save a child, vulnerable adult, or pet who is trapped a dangerously hot car. This year, the law has gotten attention again as temperatures have risen.

Morrissey, Rep. Samantha Kerkman, Sens. Bob Wirch and Van Wanggaard, and
others. This was a truly bipartisan effort.
Rep. Ohnstad Attends 4th Annual
Kenosha Pride March
Earlier this month, I was pleased to participate in the 4th Annual Kenosha Pride March. I have been able to attend all four and thinking back I would have never guessed at the first parade we would have made the advances in the courts to finally allow for all people to be able to marry the one they love. While this amazing progress is being made though, unfortunately the national Republican Party just adopted its most anti-LGBT platform ever, according to a leader of the Log Cabin Republicans. There is clearly still work to be done. I will continue advocating for LGBT individuals and families both in Kenosha and in Madison as your State Representative.
Kenosha County Fair Will Be August 17-21
A summer favorite for many folks is the Kenosha County Fair, which brings together friends and family to enjoy music, food, games, and exhibits. Whether you participate in 4-H, showcase a skill in the talent show, listen to live music, or have a talent for throwing bales of hay, there is something for everyone to enjoy at the Kenosha County Fair.

Collector Vehicle Appreciation Day Celebrated on Second Friday in July
With so many car shows taking place in Kenosha each summer, I thought I would highlight a new appreciation day which was added to Wisconsin's calendar this year. With the enrollment of 2015 Assembly Joint Resolution 79, the second Friday in July is now known as Collector Vehicle Appreciation Day in Wisconsin.
As we know so well in Kenosha, collecting, restoring, and preserving collector vehicles is something folks across the generations enjoy. Not only do thousands of Wisconsinites own collector vehicles - WisDOT issued more than 5,000 collector license plates in 2013 - classic and collector vehicle clubs have been established throughout Wisconsin, such as Kenosha's own Kenosha Car Club. The gatherings and "cruises" held by these clubs are fun for participants and also improve the business climate and economies in local communities.
I was pleased to vote in favor of 2015 AJR 79 and even more pleased Wisconsin will now recognize collector vehicles each July.
