Friends and Neighbors,
I hope everyone is doing well. During this time last year, the pandemic began and emergency health orders across the country changed how we live. It was a tough year for many, especially for those who lost a loved one from COVID-19. As our lives have been put on hold for a little over a year, I am confident in Governor Evers and the Biden Administration to ensure those who want a vaccine will be able to get one soon.
While we cannot take a victory lap yet, the light at the end of the tunnel is near. Like you, I want to spend this summer with my family and friends; however, in order for this to happen we must still take the necessary precautions to protect those not vaccinated. We certainly have challenges ahead of us, but County Executive Kreuser and County Health Director Freiheit have tackled every challenge they have faced.
I always welcome your feedback and opinions, so please feel free to contact me. Also, if you would like something to be included in future e-newsletters, just let me know at (608) 266-0455 or Rep.Ohnstad@legis.wi.gov.
Sincerely,
Wisconsin Vaccine Distribution
Under the leadership of Governor Evers, Wisconsin has become one of the top ranked states in the nation for vaccine distribution:
- In Kenosha County, 27.3% (46,344) residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine. 17.6% (29,813) residents have completed their second vaccine.
- In Wisconsin, 29.7% (1,726,519) residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine. 17.4% (1,013,613) residents have completed their second vaccine.
- 55,080 Johnson & Johnson doses administered
- 1,244,508 Moderna doses administered
- 1,453,436 Pfizer doses administered
Earlier this month, I was pleased to visit the new Kenosha COVID-19 vaccine distribution site with Governor Evers. This site dramatically increases the number of doses per day to 2,700 – a major increase from the clinic site at the Kenosha County Job Center.
American Rescue Plan
This month President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan into law. A majority of you have already received the $1,400 stimulus check, additional unemployment assistance, and relief if you are a business owner. This is a major investment in the future of our country and has helped many people who are struggling. Some of the highlights from this bill are: increased food aid, rental assistance, child tax credit, school and childcare grants, significant help for small businesses, and $350 billion in aid to states, cities, and tribal communities.
Governor Evers has outlined a robust Wisconsin plan to invest $2.5 billion in federal American Rescue Plan funds. This includes $600 million to support small businesses and $200 million for infrastructure improvement. As we work to help families, communities, and the economy overcome the pandemic this plan will certainly put us on the road to recovery.
Wisconsin Tax Deadline Delayed
A week ago, Wisconsin’s Department of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service announced the tax deadline has been delayed until May 17th this year. If you have not filed taxes yet, you have until May 17th to do so; however, please file as soon as possible if you are able to.

Gordon’s Sports Bar & Grill Ribbon Cutting
It was great to attend the ribbon cutting for Gordon’s Sports Bar & Grill and welcome the owners. Gordon’s is located at 5703 6th Avenue – I am looking forward to grabbing a bite to eat there again soon!
Unemployment Assistance
I understand there are serious issues with the unemployment system here in Wisconsin. No one should have to wait months to receive their payments or wait hours upon hours on hold in attempt to reach the assistance line. It is important Wisconsinites are able to use this critical program when they need it most.
If you or someone you know is struggling to get their unemployment payments, my staff is able to help. Please call my office at 608-266-0455 or email Rep.Ohnstad@legis.wisconsin.gov. My office will be sure to send your claim directly to the Department of Workforce Development.
