ICYMI: New Downtown Mural Featuring
AMC Gremlin

Late last month, a new mural was went up in downtown Kenosha featuring the AMC Gremlin.  I moved to Kenosha from Eau Claire in 1974 when AMC put on a second shift of the Gremlin line.

With the phrase "Greetings From Kenosha," the mural is a part of the "Expose Kenosha" project and was designed by Francisco Loyola.  It was painted by Aurora Contreras, with the help of Kathy DiCello and Margaret Heller.

If you haven't seen this amazing mural, stop by Friendship Park at 59th Avenue and Sixth Street to check it out.  Thank you to these amazing artists!

Local Resource:
Emergency Services Network of
Kenosha County

If you live in Kenosha County and need emergency assistance, Emergency Services Network (ESN) of Kenosha County is your one-stop shop for resource information.  ESN brings together community based agencies serving low income and indigent residents of the county with the goal of creating better coordination of services and eliminating duplication of services and aid.

We are fortunate here in Kenosha to live in a community which values all residents and which works hard to help those in need. ESN provides a great tool to point folks in the right direction when they need emergency support.

If you or someone you know needs some emergency assistance, ESN can be an important first stop. Please encourage them to visit www.esnkenosha.org

If you are a service provider serving Kenosha County residents and would like more information on becoming a member of ESN, please contact Byron Wright at Kenosha Human Development Services at (262) 657-7188.

Staying Safe on
New Years Eve

New Years Eve always comes with many opportunities for folks to enjoy themselves. I want to remind everyone to travel and celebrate safely this New Years Eve.

If you are out and about celebrating this year and find yourself in need of a safe ride home, be sure to ask about the Kenosha Safe Ride program which is being run again by the Kenosha County Tavern League.  Simply ask your server if they have a safe ride voucher, which is free to patrons.

Seeking Your Ideas
For Legislation

As your state representative, one of my jobs is to introduce legislation to address Kenosha's needs and concerns. I will be focusing more and more on the laws and policies of our state. I'll be devoting time to researching what changes make sense. If you have ideas for possible legislation, I'd love to hear about them! Do you have an idea for a state law that needs fixing? Have you had an experience that brought a state problem to light that you would like to see addressed?

I believe the best legislation comes from constituents like you. So, I hope you will contact me to share your ideas for bill! You can
email me with your legislation ideas or you can call my office at (608) 266-0455.

Friends and Neighbors,

It hardly seems possible this is my last State Capitol Report of the year. Unfortunately, a lot of bad legislation got passed in the last year, ranging from the extreme, divisive state budget to right to work, from education to women's health, from attacks on our democracy to attacks on folks living in poverty. The list goes on and on.  Added to these bad policies was a real lack of legislation on issues important to people, such as creating jobs, supporting workers, and lifting up the middle class and those fighting to get there.

That being said, as 2015 comes to a close, I hope you are able to spend some quality time with family and friends, thinking back on the events of the past year as well as looking ahead to the year to come.  It has been my privilege to serve you in the Wisconsin State Assembly during 2015. I look forward to continuing to do so in 2016, and hope you will continue to be in touch with me with your questions, suggestions, and thoughts on the important issues facing our community and our state.

As always, if you or someone you know is having difficulty in dealing with a state agency and would like help, I hope you will give my office a call.  You can always reach me at (608) 266-0455 or Rep.Ohnstad@legis.wi.gov.

It is my honor to serve you. I hope you enjoy safe and happy holidays, as well as a wonderful new year.

Tod Ohnstad
State Representative
65th Assembly District

2015 State Christmas Tree Is Up

The official state Christmas Tree has arrived in Madison and is up and decorated in the middle of our State Capitol building.  Donated by Brad and Elizabeth Kowieski of Rhinelander, this year's tree is a full Balsam Fir and stands forty feet tall.

This year's tree theme is "Wisconsin Sports," in recognition of our state's sports teams, traditions, and athletes. If you get an opportunity, I hope you will make the drive to Madison to take a look at the beautifully decorated tree. If you do, please stop by my office at 128 North to say hello!

New Kenosha Artwork Featured in Capitol

Just in time for the holiday season and the turn of the new year, Lemon Street Gallery returned to the State Capitol to share some new pieces by Kenosha artists in my office.  It is such a privilege to share the incredible artwork from Kenosha with the visitors and legislators who stop by.

For the next few months, the following pieces will be displayed in my State Capitol office.

Artist Patricia Krueger, "Rooster," Photograph

Artist Kathleen Knutell, "Grandpa's Barn," Watercolor

Artist Carolyn Garland, "Mountain Top," Acrylic

As always, thank you to all of the artists for your creativity and work. We are so fortunate to have you in our community.
