2025-27 State Budget
After months of negotiations, public hearings, and statewide listening sessions, legislators from both parties came together with Governor Evers to find common ground on a state budget. The result? A bipartisan compromise that reflects the priorities of communities across Wisconsin—and one that earned my “YES” vote.
This budget proves we can deliver meaningful results for the people we serve.
I supported this budget because it takes major steps toward responsible and sustainable state government spending. It delivers $1.3 billion in tax relief, including a new Retirement Income Tax Exclusion—something I’ve been fighting for since I was first elected in 2018. I believe Wisconsin taxpayers should keep more of their hard-earned money, and this budget reflects that principle.
Public safety is a top concern for families and businesses alike, especially in Southeastern Wisconsin. This budget increases Expressway Policing Aids and allows Milwaukee County to retain 100% of fine and forfeiture revenues from state traffic violations. It also authorizes 12.5 new positions in the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office to strengthen local law enforcement efforts.
We also prioritized taking care of what we’ve already built—while planning smarter for what’s next:
- The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Eye Institute will receive funding for a new facility in Wauwatosa.
- Upgrades are coming to the Richard Bong State Recreation Area, including a new warden office and storage space.
- State Fair Park will benefit from improved restrooms and parking.
- Critical investments at UW campuses—from Milwaukee to Platteville—will support health sciences, student housing, and long-overdue utility repairs.
Importantly, this budget bonds less than the Governor’s original proposal, blocks over $3.7 billion in proposed tax increases, and reduces more than 300 government positions—showing that we can be responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars without compromising core services.
This budget isn’t perfect—but no compromise ever is. Still, it’s a strong, step forward that reflects shared priorities and delivers real value to the people of Wisconsin.
I’m proud to support it.
