Welcome to my e-update

Thank you for taking the time to read this week's e-update. I always strive to include information you find interesting and informative as it relates to my work in Madison and the 60th Assembly District.

My most important goal remains serving you, my constituents. Helping you find solutions to difficult problems when it seems like the state is unresponsive is the single greatest reward for my staff and me. I take constituents' input seriously and continually work hard on your behalf.

I always have your thoughts and concerns in mind when deciding whether or not to support legislation. Furthermore, I appreciate when you take time out of your schedules to contact me.

Have a great week,

Question of the Week

Last week, in his budget, Governor Evers proposed a $15 per hour minimum wage. This week's survey question deals specifically with this issue of increasing the minimum wage.

Please, take just a minute to take my two-question survey on minimum wage issues.

Results of last week's survey

Ninety-one percent of respondents to question one believed that fathers should be required to pay birth recovery costs. Conversely, just nine percent of respondents opposed to making fathers pay birth recovery costs.

As for question two, seventy-three percent of respondents do not support the change to a DCF administrative rule which no longer requires fathers from intact families to pay birth recovery costs.

Governor Tony Evers' budget proposal

022819 Budget Address #70.jpg

Last week, Governor Evers delivered his first budget before a joint session of the legislature. Governor Evers' budget was a missed opportunity at bipartisanship and the culmination of a liberal agenda. I was disappointed with the governor's fiscally irresponsible, anti-growth budget. The following represent several of Governor Evers' seminal budget priorities:

  • $832 million structural deficit for the next budget
  • $1.7 billion deficit to commence Fiscal Year 2021
  • Spending increases in excess of $6 billion (more than $1,000 for every man, woman, and child)
  • Creation of more than 700 new government positions
  • More than $1 billion in tax increases
  • An exponential increase of the state's welfare programs (he also advocated for eliminating the work and drug testing requirements)
  • Largest property tax increase in a decade (taxes on the median-valued home will increase by $150 or 2 percent)
  • Suspend the creation of new charter schools
  • Rollback the state's school choice program
  • Make illegal aliens eligible for resident tuition
  • Increase the Earned-Income Tax Credit and cap the Manufacturing and Agriculture Tax Credit
  • Establish an unsustainable and job-killing $15 per hour minimum wage
  • Proposed red flag seizure regarding firearms
  • Increase funding for Planned Parenthood
  • Increase the gas tax by as much as 8 cents per gallon
  • Provides driver's licenses to undocumented aliens
