Welcome to my e-update

Thank you for taking the time to read this week's e-update. I always strive to include information you find interesting and informative as it relates to my work in Madison and the 60th Assembly District.

My most important goal remains serving you, my constituents. Helping you find solutions to difficult problems when it seems like the state is unresponsive is the single greatest reward for my staff and me. I take constituents' input seriously and continually work hard on your behalf.

I always have your thoughts and concerns in mind when deciding whether or not to support legislation. Furthermore, I appreciate when you take time out of your schedules to contact me.

Have a great week,

Question of the Week

One of the most consequential issues facing our state this budget cycle is transportation funding. Currently, transportation is funded through the following sources:

  • Gas taxes
  • Registration fees
  • Licensing
  • Bonding
  • Historically, we have transferred 1/4 of 1 percent from sales tax revenue to transportation.

This week's question seeks your input on how to best fund transportation.

Please, take just a minute to answer my one-question survey on transportation funding.

Survey Results

Seventy-five percent of respondents to last week's survey opposed granting in-state tuition rates at UW-System schools to illegal immigrants. On the contrary, just sixteen percent of respondents supported granting in-state tuition to illegal immigrants.

In order to increase the number of responses and obtain a more diverse sample of constituent opinions, I encourage you to share our survey with your friends and family and/or sign up for my weekly e-update.

This week in Madison

This week, in addition to participating in the first Water Quality Task Force hearing, I had the opportunity to meet with farmers from Ozaukee and Washington Counties who were in Madison for their annual legislative day and received the 2019 "Friend of the Deer and Elk Industry" award from the Wisconsin Commerical Elk and Deer Farmers Association.

Water Quality Task Force

This week, the Water Quality Task Force held its first public hearing. We heard presentations from the Departments of Natural Resources, Health Services, Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection, and University of Wisconsin.

The committee will be holding public hearings across Wisconsin. Stay tuned for more information about these events. Additionally, I will be holding a series of in-district listening sessions and roundtable discussions specific to water quality issues.
