Thank you for taking the time to read this week's e-update. I always strive to include information you find interesting and informative as it relates to my work in Madison and the 60th Assembly District.
My most important goal remains serving you, my constituents. Helping you find solutions to difficult problems when it seems like the state is unresponsive is the single greatest reward for my staff and me. I take constituents' input seriously and continually work hard on your behalf.
I always have your thoughts and concerns in mind when deciding whether or not to support legislation. Furthermore, I appreciate when you take time out of your schedules to contact me.
Have a great week,
Ways and Means Committee hearing
This week, the Assembly Ways and Means Committee held a public hearing and executive session on the middle-class tax relief legislation profiled in last week's e-update.
Our middle-class tax cut proposal would provide $340 million in tax relief through a targeted cut for individuals earning less than $100,000 and families earning less than $150,000. Middle-class tax relief will benefit more than 2 million Badger State residents.
Increases the standard deduction for earners at the 100,000 single and $150,000 joint level
Provides tax relief to nearly 2 million hard-working Wisconsinites
Cuts the tax liability for joint filers earning between $30,000 and $40,000, in half
Ensures that 75 percent of total tax relief goes to filers with incomes between $30,000 and $100,000
Precipitates a ten percent reduction in taxes for middle-income joint filers (more than $3,000 in tax relief)
I supported final passage of this middle-class tax relief proposal at the executive session and look forward to a vigorous debate on the floor and final passage by the legislature.
Our middle-class tax reform proposal was approved by the Ways and Means committee on a party-line vote. The bill now moves to the Assembly for full consideration.
