Pushing for Affordable Health Care

Rep. Murphy testifying in front of the Assembly Committee on Health

On Thursday the Assembly Committee on Health held public hearings on 11 bills. I authored two of the bills and I co-authored seven. Many of the bills are aimed at reducing the cost of quality health care in our state by cutting through red tape and increasing access to health care practitioners.

One of the bills I coauthored is a bipartisan effort to require informed consent before a physician performs a pelvic exam on a patient who is unconscious.

Election Investigation Update

Former Justice Gableman on UpFront

Former State Supreme Court Justice Mike Gableman has been promoted to Special Counsel for the State Assembly and given the authority to hire additional investigators to carry out his work.

I'm hopeful that this means the election investigation team will get the powers and resources necessary to ensure that a complete and thorough examination of the November 2020 election is conducted. However, I will continue to push for this team to have the resources and directives they need to conduct a legitimate investigation.

Special Counsel Gableman has indicated that his team is focusing on three major areas of concern:

  • Wisconsin Election Commission guidance that did not adhere to Wisconsin election laws (especially with regard to absentee voting),
  • the influence of outside organizations funding the administration of elections in certain cities, and
  • the security and accuracy of voting machines.

A detailed report will be issued after the conclusion of their investigation sometime in or after October.

I’m hopeful that this investigation and the non-partisan Legislative Audit Bureau audit will restore the public’s faith in our elections, particularly if these expert auditors and investigators apply forensic and cybersecurity rooted analyses in their work, as my colleagues and I have requested.

Winneconne Sovereign State Days Parade

Despite the rainy weather, the turnout for the Sovereign State of Winneconne grand parade down Main Street was fantastic. Thank you to everyone who attended or participated on July 24th! The annual celebration of sovereign state days in Winneconne began in 1968 when Wisconsin accidentally left the village off the state highway maps. To learn more about how the village responded, visit https://sovereignstateofwinneconne.com/secession-days-story/
