Middle Class Tax Cut Advances

The legislature’s Joint Finance Committee advanced our bill to provide Wisconsinites with a middle class tax cut. This tax cut, which both Republicans and Governor Evers campaigned on, will be considered by the Assembly for a vote on Tuesday. Republican leaders have also announced that they are willing to negotiate with the Governor in order to get hard working middle class Wisconsinites the tax cut they deserve.

Gun Safety and Rights

My wife Lynn and I recently spent time together at the Fireline Shooting & Training Center in Appleton. Lynn likes to think she's a better shot than I am (which is probably true) but I'm just glad she has the skills to defend herself.

I’m a fervent supporter of the 2nd Amendment and I'll oppose any legislation that denies due process when considering a person’s right to bear arms.

Late-Term Abortion

Late-term abortions are prohibited in Wisconsin, as I hope they always will be. Last session we passed legislation banning abortions after 20 weeks, which is the strongest measure the Supreme Court will currently uphold. Modern research shows that babies in the womb can feel pain at this stage, which is why we titled the bill the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.

As Democrats around the nation begin to revive the debate over these unpopular and abhorrent late-term abortions, my colleagues and I made an impassioned plea to our Wisconsin Democratic colleagues in the legislature:

Let's rise above politics and do the right thing. Don't waste precious legislative resources reintroducing a sure-to-fail bill aimed at permitting abortions right up until a child is born. Instead, work with us across the partisan divide to advance legislation that will improve the lives of Wisconsin children, both born and unborn.

You can watch our press conference here.

I encourage you to watch the explanation of the bill introduced in Virginia permitting these types of abortions by the bill's author:

Community Connections

I had the opportunity to tour Mount Olive Lutheran School in Appleton and speak with students. I challenged the students to come up with their own laws. My favorite idea was to lower the price of pizza.

I had a great conversation with new Appleton School Board member Leah Olson.

Despite the wintery weather, folks from the Fox Cities YMCA made their way to my Capitol office.
