Working for you!

Committed to Safety Without Sacrificing Your Rights

I support sensible solutions that improve public safety without denying individual rights. This is why I supported the laws we passed to improve school safety and better address mental health in Wisconsin. The governor has unfortunately taken the position that it is more important for him to make empty gestures to his political base than it is to actually work for real bipartisan solutions. By putting forward a package of bills that we were not involved in drafting and that sacrifices personal liberty in exchange for laws that aren’t even proven to reduce gun violence the governor has sent a clear signal that he values lip service more than real change.

This is clearly a topic at the forefront of many folk’s minds lately. In the last month, I’ve heard from well over a hundred constituents on this issue and over 80 percent of the communications I’ve received have been about the importance of preserving legal due process and Second Amendment rights.

There is still a lot of work to be done on this issue and I’m hoping the governor will decide to join us in advancing solutions that bridge the partisan divide.

Preserving Freedom of Expression

In recognition of Free Speech Week, I had the opportunity to speak on UpFront about the importance of preserving freedom of expression on our college campuses. You can watch the interview by clicking on the image below.

I also had the chance to record an episode of the Right Angle podcast with Speaker Vos to discuss the bill Rep. Horlacher and I have introduced regarding freedom of expression at the University of Wisconsin System. Listen online here.
