Working for you!

The Right to Your Own Name, Image, and Likeness

College athletics is a model of sports amateurism, allowing students and the public to enjoy the game simply for the love of it and where small towns and schools can still field competitive teams. Developing this model of sports has taken a hundred years, but along the way certain individual rights were sacrificed.

No one should have to surrender the right to be compensated for the use of their name, image, or likeness in order to participate in an amateur sport. That’s why I’m drafting a bill with Democrats and Republicans to restore this right, while preserving the amateurism of college sports by prohibiting colleges and the NCAA from compensating student athletes. I firmly believe that college student athletes should not be directly paid by their institutions and my bill puts that into law.

I’ve been working closely with the University of Wisconsin and Marquette University on the bill. You can read my recent letter to UW–Madison Athletic Director Barry Alvarez here.

Time to Turn Back the Clock

Daylight Saving Time ends Nov. 3. Don’t forget to turn your clocks back one hour on Sunday at 2:00 A.M.

On the Radio

On Thursday I had the chance to chat with WHBY’s Josh Dukelow on Fresh Take. We had a great discussion about gun laws being proposed by the governor and UW System. You can listen online here.

It's Fall in Wisconsin

Fall in Wisconsin sometimes means snow. My staff was able to capture a photo of the fall/winter mix at the Capitol this week.

The third week of October is expected to be peak fall leaf color in our neck of the woods. For more information about the changing of the tree colors visit: https://www.travelwisconsin.com/fall-color-report.
