A National Leader in School Choice

On Tuesday, Vice President Mike Pence spoke to a large crowd of school choice students from across the state, becoming the first sitting president or vice president to visit our State Capitol. This marks the 30th anniversary of school choice in Wisconsin, the first school choice program in the nation. You can watch the full event by clicking on the picture below.

Our Blue Ribbon School

Winneconne Middle School was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School. Only eight schools across Wisconsin were granted this prestigious honor in 2019. WMS was nominated in the category of “Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools.” I was honored to attend the local ceremony for this terrific accomplishment, and you can watch a video of the local ceremony by clicking on the picture above.

Preparing for Coronavirus

By now, I’m sure you’ve seen or heard the news of the rabidly spreading coronavirus in China. Here in Wisconsin, we continue to have no confirmed cases of the virus, with six individuals waiting for their test results to come back. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is actively monitoring the situation and providing information to the public at https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/outbreaks/index.htm

The University of Wisconsin–Madison is also studying this new coronavirus to learn more about how it spreads and how to develop antiviral drugs. You can read more about their research in the Wisconsin State Journal.

Capitol Visitors

Local physicians from MOSA Family Health visited my office on Wednesday for Doctor Day at the State Capitol. Pictured right to left: Drs. Andrew Beine, Beth Menzel, and Laura Verhagen.

Local crop advisor, Nathan Nysse (pictured on the right) visited with my staff on Wednesday on behalf of the Wisconsin Association of Professional Ag Consultants.
