Working for you!

Support Hurricane Survivors this Saturday

Two local Houdini Elementary School students, Dominic Ruzzicone and Christopher Agaton, are hoping to raise at least $1,000 by selling $1 cups of lemonade from 11 A.M. – 5 P.M. at 2012 W. Capitol Drive in Appleton.

Please stop by and support their very worthy cause!

100% of the total amount raised will be divided evenly between: Samaritans Purse, the Cajun Navy, and an individual victim of Hurricane Harvey, Debbie, who lost everything. Debbie is an elderly woman in Houston who lost nearly everything in the flood. After mandatory evacuation she returned home to find 98% of the contents of her home unsalvageable. Due to bacteria, toxins, and sewage in the floodwaters, nearly everything had to be disposed of. Her home is empty. She is in need of everything (furniture, bed, etc.). Dominic and Christopher hope their donation will help her make "her house a home again."

Budget Wrap Up

Wednesday night, the Wisconsin Assembly adopted the two year Wisconsin State budget. I’m proud to have voted in favor of a budget that cuts waste, reforms programs, expands individual freedom, and invests in our children.

Here’s why I support this budget (in less than a minute):

Meet Our New Intern

Last Thursday, Maryjane Behm started in my office as an intern. Maryjane, from Winneconne, is a senior majoring in agriculture and applied economics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

This Thursday, I had the opportunity to introduce Maryjane to the Wisconsin State Assembly. You can watch the video of her introduction here: http://www.wiseye.org/Video-Archive/View-Video-Clip?vid=14901&start=01-49-06&end=01-50-07

Wisconsin Steps Up in the Face of Disaster

September is Preparedness Month in Wisconsin and now is the time prepare before disaster strikes.

“A simple conversation around the dinner table can be the first step in developing a plan with your family,” said Maj. Gen. Don Dunbar, Wisconsin’s adjutant general and Homeland Security advisor. “Talking through the basics can help you get organized and on the road to readiness.”

What you can do to prepare:

  • Put together an emergency kit focusing on specific needs in your household such as prescription medications, pet needs, and items for your children.

  • Keep an emergency kit in your car especially during the winter months when you could become stranded in a storm.

  • Review existing insurance policies and save copies of important documents such as birth certificates, social security cards, and tax statements in a safety deposit box or secure digital storage.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection is also encouraging folks to exercise caution when adopting a dog from a hurricane region.

The Wisconsin National Guard's 32nd "Red Arrow" Infantry Brigade Combat Team had been identified as one of the units nationwide available to assist in the Hurricane Harvey recovery effort in Texas. The Red Arrow brigade was redirected as Hurricane Irma approached Florida.

Joining the 32nd Brigade on state active duty in helping Florida are the 157th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade's 1157th Transportation Company, and the 64th Troop Command's 112th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, along with other Wisconsin Army and Air National Guard elements.

Wisconsin's Urban Search and Rescue Task Force (WI-TF1) is also traveling to Florida to assist in response and recovery efforts as a result of Hurricane Irma. WI-TF1 will began a 10-day deployment in the Jacksonville, Florida area recently but may move to other areas as needed. The team is bringing specialized equipment and supplies for search, rescue - including swift water rescue - communications, medical, and logistics support.
