Governor Signs Republican Tax Cuts into Law

After proposing a $1 billion tax increase in his own version of the budget, the governor yesterday signed the Republican legislature’s budget that includes over $2 billion in tax cuts for individuals. Regardless of who gets credit for this historic tax decrease, I’m thrilled for the families in Wisconsin that will save an average of $1200 over the course of this budget.

The signing of this historic tax-cutting budget is a signal to the public that the Wisconsin government is continuing to overcoming partisan bickering to do what’s best for the people of Wisconsin.

You can read the full budget, as partially vetoed, here (note that text in red has been removed by the governor with his partial veto power.)

UW Tuition Remains Frozen

Tuition Freeze Extended

Yesterday, the UW System Board of Regents voted to continue the undergraduate tuition freeze for Wisconsin residents. While the state budget did not extend the tuition freeze, the regents are demonstrating their responsibility to approve tuition levels that do not exceed what Wisconsin families are able to pay. I am continuing to push for a statutory cap on future tuition increases that cannot exceed inflation.

Wisconsin Troops Deployed to the Border

Wisconsin National Guard Logo

The President has deployed Wisconsin National Guard troops to protect the border with Mexico. I’m hopeful the governor will not recall these desperately needed troops, as he did for political reasons when former President Trump deployed Wisconsin troops to the border in 2019.

Please keep all of our troops in your prayers as they carry out their important work.

Evers’ Hypocrisy on Gambling

Sports Betting Display

Recently, the Governor entered into a new compact with the Oneida Nation to allow sports betting at their Wisconsin casinos. This stands in stark contrast to the statement the Governor issued when he vetoed my bill to allow churches and non-profit organizations to utilize paddlewheel raffles in their fundraising efforts, in which he expressed concern that it might require him to renegotiate gambling compacts with Wisconsin’s tribes. This statement was particularly concerning since Wisconsin’s tribes expressed no opposition to the bill when it was heard in public hearings. Clearly, the governor is willing to expand gambling in Wisconsin, so long as it doesn’t benefit churches or non-profits.
