Late-term abortions are prohibited in
Wisconsin, as I hope they always will be. Last session we passed
legislation banning abortions after 20 weeks, which is the
strongest measure the Supreme Court will currently uphold.
Modern research shows that babies in the womb can feel pain at
this stage, which is why we titled the bill the Pain Capable
Unborn Child Protection Act.
As Democrats
around the nation begin to revive the debate over these
unpopular and abhorrent late-term abortions, my colleagues and I made an
impassioned plea to our Wisconsin Democratic colleagues in the
legislature:
Let's rise above politics and do the right
thing. Don't waste precious legislative resources reintroducing a
sure-to-fail bill aimed at permitting abortions right up until a child is born. Instead, work
with us across the partisan divide to advance legislation that
will improve the lives of Wisconsin children, both born and unborn.

I encourage you to watch the explanation of the bill introduced
in Virginia permitting these types of abortions by the bill's
