Preventing the Theft of Free
Speech at Our Universities |
On Wednesday, I spent nearly twelve hours
debating dozens of bills. One piece of
legislation near and dear to my heart is AB 299, the Campus Free
Speech Act, which takes action to prevent the disruption of free
speech on University of Wisconsin campuses across the state.
The bill, adopted by the Assembly on
Wednesday, provides for student orientation and employee
training about the exercise of free speech. The bill also gives
our university leaders legal backing to protect speakers from
being shut down by a heckler's veto.
You can view my full speech on the Assembly
floor about this important bill by clicking on the image below:

74th Annual Badger Girls
State |
First held in 1937, Badger Girls State is a
program of the American Legion Auxiliary Department of
Wisconsin. This year, more than 725 Badger Girl delegates
attended Badger Girls State at UW–Oshkosh.
Students must be between their
junior and senior years of high school to attend. Candidates are selected
by American Legion Auxiliary Units and local high school
teachers, who evaluate candidates based on several factors,
including their academic record, character, participation in
extra-curricular activities, and interest in government. All
participants must rank in the upper half of their classes.
I had the pleasure of attending the
inauguration ceremony as a guest of Fox Valley Lutheran High
School senior Jaliana Griesbach. |
Tommy G. Thompson Day |
The longest serving governor in Wisconsin
will now have a special day in his honor here in Wisconsin. The
Wisconsin State Assembly passed a joint resolution on Wednesday
designating November 19th, the former governor's
birthday, as Tommy G. Thompson Day.

If your school or group plans to tour the Capitol
building, please let me know in advance. I'd
love to visit with you for a few minutes and take a
