Welcome to my first January E-Update!
Weeks of January 7th and 14th
In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 17th, 2022
The past two weeks at the legislature has been busy! Here is a brief legislative update on what we have been working on:
  1. My APRN Modernization Act (AB396) passed out of the Assembly Committee on Health this past Wednesday. The next steps are to ensure that it meets some of the concerns of my colleagues so that it passes with a wide-margin when taken up for a full vote on the Assembly floor!
  2. Moreover, my bill, Assembly bill 475, which would require that estimated interest rates be on the ballot in the event that a Referendum is being voted by constituents in their respective community, successfully passed out of the Assembly Committee on Government Oversight and Accountability this past Tuesday, the 11th. This bill is monumental when it comes to increasing governmental transparency and affording you, the constituents, a more informed decision upon deliberating a certain referendum.
  3. Additionally, my Free Speech bill, AB 735, passed out of the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities this past Thursday. This bill would encourage that Universities to uphold the fundamental right to free speech. College students, through many different experiences, have been silenced in the classroom, often at the thought of getting graded due to their specific belief. In passing, this bill would reassure all college students that they have a voice and it can be used without fear of repercussions.
