The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) announced that beginning March 22nd, millions of people with certain medical conditions will be eligible for Phase 1c of COVID-19 vaccinations. This list includes medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, cancer, and high blood pressure, amongst many others. DHS has also provided additional guidance including restaurant workers such as servers, hosts, and chefs as part of the “Food supply chain” group currently eligible for vaccination under Phase 1b. This change goes into effect immediately.

Governor Tony Evers has also announced that all Wisconsinites 16 and older will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine starting May 1st.

Unemployment Insurance Modernization

Last month, the Wisconsin State Assembly passed Special Session Senate Bill 1 (SB1) to help modernize Wisconsin’s outdated unemployment insurance (UI) infrastructure. While SB1 does not provide necessary long-term overhauls of the UI system, I voted in favor of SB1 because it is a first step toward ensuring our unemployment infrastructure can meet the needs of Wisconsinites down the road. SB1 was signed into law by Governor Tony Evers on February 25th. I look forward to fighting for long-term solutions by approving the Governor’s proposed overhaul of UI infrastructure during the upcoming budget process.

Friend of Housing Award

I was honored to receive the Wisconsin Builders Association 2020 Friend of Housing award this week. Every two years, the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Builders Association selects legislators who advance the goals of affordable, innovative, and environmentally conscious homes accessible to all.

I am proud to work on policies that reduce the cost of housing for Wisconsinites.
