As we approach the new year, I wanted to take the opportunity to update you on my work in the Capitol and my priorities for the year ahead.  Thanks for taking the time to read my Legislative Newsletter. End of 2015 Session, and a look ahead to 2016

 Unfortunately the Legislature wrapped up 2015 with a significant amount of work left undone.  The main focus of Republicans in the majority was on making dramatic changes to Wisconsin’s campaign finance laws. One law passed dismantled Wisconsin's non-partisan elections oversight board and another deregulated most election spending by special interests, corporations, and billionaires. Republicans also passed legislation exempting political crimes from Wisconsin's version of a grand jury investigation, and a bill that would make it harder for consumers to challenge the debt collection industry in court.

Looking to 2016, my priorities remain the same.  I would like state government to focus on making Wisconsin a better place to find a well-paying job and raise a family.  Some issues I would like to see addressed in the coming session are raising the minimum wage, making a college education more affordable, addressing the worsening quality of  drinking water in some areas of our state, and an increased focus on adequately funding our public school classrooms.  I also have been working on legislation that would provide mental health gap services so low-income veterans can receive immediate counseling and treatment during long VA wait times.

Winter Office Hours Schedule

I like to make myself available to my constituents as much as possible. Each month I hold office hours from 10am-12pm at the Oshkosh Seniors Center, 200 N Campbell Rd, Oshkosh. My office hours schedule for the winter is as follows:
  • Friday, January 22
  • Friday, February 26
  • Friday, March 18

Other Happenings

On December 11, Rep. Hintz joined the AT&T Wisconsin Pioneers in presenting the Day by Day Warming Shelter with 25 sleeping mats recycled from plastic bags from grocery and retail stores. Each mat requires 500 bags and takes 100 hours to make. Rep. Hintz commended the Day By Day Warming Shelter as a vital organization that is making a real difference in the lives of Oshkosh’s homeless.
  • November 2: Attended the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting
  • November 6: Participated in the Board for People With Developmental Disabilities' Take Your Legislator to Work Campaign with constituent Stacy Ellingen.
  • November 11: Participated in the Oshkosh North High School 2015 Veterans Day Ceremony
  • November 12: Walked in the Oshkosh Holiday Parade
  • December 2: Attended the New North Summit in Oshkosh
  • December 11: Attended the CESA 6 Legislative Breakfast Forum with area educators and legislators.
  • December 11: Joined the AT&T Wisconsin Pioneers in presenting the Day by Day Warming Shelter with 25 sleeping mats.
  • December 18: Served as a judge in the 5th Annual Caring Through Cookies contest at Northpoint Medical and Rehabilitation Center.
     

 

Capitol Christmas Tree

The Capitol Christmas Tree for 2015 is a 40-foot balsam fir donated by Brad and Elizabeth Kowieski of Rhinelander. The ornaments are made by Wisconsin school children, and the theme for the tree this year is Wisconsin sports.

The tree is typically on display after Thanksgiving until the New Year.  Located at 2 East Main Street, Madison, WI 53702, the Capitol is open to the public weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and weekends and holidays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Blue Books and Highway Maps now available!

The newest edition of the Wisconsin Blue Book is here and ready to a be resource for you on all things Wisconsin government! If you live in Oshkosh and would like a free Wisconsin Blue Book delivered to your home, just send me a message with your address.  State Highway maps are also available free of charge.
