Dear friend,
As always, it is an honor to
serve as your representative from the 54th Assembly District. I am
privileged to have the opportunity to work with so many concerned and
active constituents.
Thanks for taking the time to read my brief Budget Update. I hope
that you’ll always feel welcome to contact me, whether it’s by calling,
writing, or stopping by my office.
Sincerely,

I am
very honored to announce that I have been reappointed to the
Joint Finance Committee (JFC). The JFC is the most
influential committee in the Legislature, charged with the
review of all state appropriations and revenues, including a
comprehensive review of the Governor’s budget. The
committee has 16 members, comprised of 12 Republicans and 4
Democrats.
As a member of the JFC I plan
to work hard with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to try to
create a balanced budget that provides opportunity for everyone.

2017-19 State
Budget Update
Governor Walker
unveiled his budget (Assembly Bill 64) on February 8th, 2017. So far, the bill has been
met with considerable speculation at the unrealistic amount of
spending. Now the Legislature must get to work on editing
the budget, and creating a balanced document.
First, State Agency
Secretaries will appear before the JFC in a public hearing
format on their respective portions of the budget. Then
JFC hits the road to hold a few statewide listening sessions
where people can come and testify on the budget. Finally,
JFC goes into executive session to edit and approve the budget
for final passage from committee. Once this is all
completed, the State Assembly and Senate must each pass the
budget bill. The bill then goes to Governor Walker to be
signed into law. |
