New Fond du Lac County Highway Garage

WCHA Garage 1.jpg

Last week Friday, I received a tour at the new Fond du Lac County highway garage that is being built along Scott Road and South Hickory Street, replacing the 90-year-old garage on Dixie Street. The new garage will include a main office facility, vehicle storage, and road maintenance equipment. The garage should have a lifetime of 100 or more years!

Volunteer Health Care Provider Bill

On both November 7th and 12th, the Assembly held a floor session. A bill that Senator Darling and I authored, AB 162, passed. This bill will give liability coverage to doctors who serve the homeless, help keep health care costs lower, benefit our doctors who want to donate their time to serve, and help those who are in need. Since the Senate passed their version, the bill should be on its way to Governor Evers' desk. Due to its bipartisan support, I am hopeful that he will sign it soon!

Public Safety Training Center: Firing Range

A few weeks ago I had posted on a weekly newsletter and social media a video of me interviewing a few members of the City of Fond du Lac fire department at the city's new public safety training center. They walked me through the importance of the training facility for the fire department. I even was lucky enough to be present for live burn training! The other half of my visit involved the training section for the police department, which entails an indoor firing range. I had an entertaining walk-through with Officer Ryan Williams (watch here). The police department believes more training mechanisms will be added onto the facility in the future.

Mobile Career Lab

AB 811 from last session increased funding by $6.8 million in a continuing appropriation for talent attraction and retention initiatives. This new Mobile Career Lab was created with that money. The Department of Workforce Development's Mobile Career Lab delivers workforce resources and services to individuals and businesses throughout Wisconsin. This state-of-the-art mobile center could help with any number of things, including assistance with recruitment drives, help in under-served areas, or a rapid response should a crisis arrive. On their website, you can request a visit to your area, view upcoming event schedules, and analyze key workforce data.
